Golden Years Home Help - helping you to stay independant.
About Me.
I have always had a fondness of the elderly, which led to me becoming a carer. I love their sense of humour, their view of the world as it has become and the stories of their lives from childhood to now. Nearly 20 years ago when I started as a carer, the economy was strong and labour was cheap. So staffing levels were good and this gave you time to spend getting to know residents. But as time has moved on belts got tightened and tightened. To the point that you are taken aside and spoken to if you are found having a chat with a resident.
Its because of this, that I decided to become self employed. Over my years working with the elderly, I have come to feel that elderly care has become more profit than caring. In the care homes there are too few staff and too many residents. And with commercial homecare, its more visits per day with no time for the person you are supposed to be caring for. So the client (as they are known) has their requirements serviced and thats that, with no quality interaction with the human being supposedly caring for them.
This is why I decided to go it alone. Over my time homecaring, I had a number of people and their families who asked if I would be available for extra visits, as the person I care for enjoys my visits, and in some cases, will not allow any other carer to tend to them. All I could ever tell them, was if they were to get injured, I would be in serious trouble. Eventually, I got the courage up and decided that I could offer them a better service working for myself, so I took the plunge.
I am now able to offer more time and services to each individual person and their families, and do not have to be time-strapped with too many appointments very busy schedule. Therefore, I and the person I care for, can become more like friends visiting. Not 20 minute appointments to make the "client" a sandwich and a cuppa and then bye, which is how it is with the large commercial caring companies.
Finally, I would like my aim to be a helper, for you and you're loved ones, rather than a carer. To help you do the things, that seem to have just slipped beyond your grasp, come back in to reach with a little support from me. I want to help you feel like belong where you are and not in a care home. I hope that the people I help and visit, feel a little brighter knowing they can still function and function well in their own environment, and that my visits bring a little enjoyment to their day ;-)
Thanks for reading Emma.
